Heading into its twentieth year as the voice of the business community in the greater Shannon area, Shannon Chamber looks back on 2014 as a year when ambitious targets set were attained:
- 52 events organised including 23 training courses
- Points raised in government submissions on aviation and tourism taken on board
- A voice in the framing of the new Further Educations and Training Strategy
- 3 Chamber Forums – Human Resources (HR), Health & Safety (H&S) and CEO – gaining momentum
- A 10-page supplement produced with a national newspaper (Sunday Business Post) profiling the attributes of Shannon as an investment location
- A new dynamic website ready for unveiling
- Focused collaboration with the Atlantic Chamber Alliance involving Shannon, Limerick and Ennis and Galway Chambers
- Increased business networking at key enterprise events in the region
- A key contributor to regional initiatives – Weastflows (West and East Freight Flows); Innovate Limerick Consortium; EU-funded ‘Connecting Rural Enterprises for a Transnational Economy (CREATE) project
- Active participation on Chambers Ireland Board and on Chamber Policy Council
Releasing the Chamber’s end of year statement today (Tuesday, 20 January 2014), chief executive Helen Downes said: “Our goal is to always ensure that we remain relevant and fit for purpose. This is achieved through maintaining a continuous two-way communication and information flow with our membership, which enables us to provide a range of services and events that meets their diverse needs.
“2014 saw an increasingly high level of attendance across all our events, including training, which was a new departure for us, with 23 training events delivering new knowledge and skills to members for individual and corporate gain. Attendance at events is one of the most obvious aspects of member engagement.”
Paying tribute to her board of directors, led by Kevin Thompstone of the Thompstone Group, her team, and the many organisations, local and national, who work with the Chamber, Ms Downes said: “We are enormously appreciate of the support we get from the business community; they are the backbone of the Chamber and their support enables us to deliver an imaginative and energetic calendar of events.”
Looking forward to celebrating twenty years as the voice of the business community in the greater Shannon area, Ms Downes added: “We will continue to keep the Shannon story to the fore, ensure that Shannon remains an attractive option for investment, and we will deliver a schedule of events that is ambitious, thought provoking and beneficial to members. It’s a special year for the Chamber and we will be marking our twentieth anniversary towards the back end of the year.”
