Uisce Éireann working to restore water for customers supplied by O’Briensbridge Water Treatment Plant

Thursday, 25 January 2024 – Uisce Éireann is working to restore normal water supply to customers supplied by O’Briensbridge Water Treatment Plant in County Clare following a burst to a water main.

Dedicated water service crews are carrying out repairs to restore normal water supply as quickly as possible. Customers in O’Briensbridge, Montpellier, Bridgetown and surrounding areas may experience low water pressure and/or water outages for the rest of the day while repair works are underway.

Darragh Conneely, Water Operations Lead with Uisce Éireann, said: “We thank impacted customers for their patience as we work to restore normal water supply as quickly as possible and it is likely to be tomorrow (Friday) before normal water supply is restored to all customers. We are appealing to customers to help conserve water by not running taps needlessly, taking showers instead of baths and to postpone using dishwashers and washing machines where possible. Further information on water conservation is available on our website at www.water/conserve. We understand the inconvenience unplanned outages can have on customers and we appreciate their patience as we work to return normal water supply.”

Typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage.

Uisce Éireann understands the inconvenience this issue is causing. To support impacted customers, additional water supplies will be available at the Community Centre in Montpellier, Cooneys Bar in Bridgetown and beside the playground in O’Briensbridge from 4pm this afternoon.

Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tanker and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure, as per HSE advice.

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications from us for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.
