Alternative water supplies and tankers in place in 10 locations across the county
Tuesday, 28 January 2025: Uisce Éireann crews continue to make significant progress in their efforts to restore water supplies across County Clare, in the aftermath of Storm Éowyn. Over 3,000 Uisce Éireann customers in Clare have seen their water supply return since yesterday.
Following huge efforts by our crews on the ground and operational teams, generators have now been deployed and installed at almost all of the plants, pumping stations and reservoirs where it is feasible to do so. We are continuing to work closely with ESB to prioritise the restoration of electricity supply in the remaining locations.
Darragh Conneely, Uisce Éireann’s Operations Manager, said: “This has been an extremely busy period for our crews, operatives, caretakers, supervisors and engineers, who have been working hard to restore water to local communities and I want to acknowledge those efforts. Uisce Éireann would like to apologise to customers who have been without water for a number of days and would like to thank the public for their continued patience during this challenging time.”
With 3,500 customers across the county still impacted, additional alternative water supplies in the form of bulk containers and tankers continue to be made available to support local communities.
Alternative water supplies are currently in place in the locations listed below:
- Killaloe GAA Pitch
- Public Water Tap located at Ennistymon Square
- Woodcock Pub, Cratloe
- O’Maras Shop, Flagmount
- McGann’s Pub, Doolin
- O’Donoghue’s Pub, Fanore
- Church car park, Ballyvaughan
- Lisdoonvarna GAA Pitch
- Promenade car park, Lahinch
- Miltown Malbay GAA Pitch
Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from tankers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure, which we understand is a challenge at this time.
We are also liaising with Local Co-ordination Groups and Emergency Response Hubs in areas where these have been established. Clare County Council is coordinating the local level humanitarian response in the county. A helpline is available at 065 6846386 (from 8am to 8pm) to provide advice and direction regarding supports available. As of today (28 January 2025), there are five Community Hubs up and running – located in Ennistymon, Kilrush, Flagmount, Tulla and Doolin/Lisdoonvarna, providing people with power and personal hygiene facilities.
