Shannon Chamber to Stage Workplace Relations Commission Mock Adjudication Hearing

Companies who may find themselves in front of a Workplace Relations Commission hearing to mitigate or defend a claim against their company are set to benefit from participating in a mock adjudication hearing which Shannon Chamber is organising in conjunction with Adare Human Resource Management.

This two-hour event is being staged in the auditorium at Entry Point North in Shannon on Thursday, 6 April, commencing at 2pm. It has been organised to give CEOs and Human Resources practitioners the opportunity to see how an adjudication process works and to play an active part in the process by acting as the jury in making the final decision on the outcome of the cases that will be heard on the day.

As Shannon Chamber CEO Helen Downes says: “As a former HR manager myself I believe an event of this nature, the first to be held outside Dublin, will be truly beneficial. As evidenced from previous mock hearings held in the Aviva Stadium, it will give attendees a unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience of the adjudication process and learn directly from an adjudication officer and senior employer relations and industrial relations practitioners. It will give them the framework they need to navigate an adjudicating process and the confidence to effectively manage any claims brought forward in this new system.

“The mock hearing will be presided over by Eugene Hanley, adjudication officer with the Workplace Relations Commission, whose role involves dispute resolution in the form of investigations, adjudication and arbitration. He also worked as a Rights Commissioner in the Labour Relations Commission.

“Liam MacNamee, head of employer relations with Adare Human Resource Management will assume the employer representative role in the mock hearing. As former human resources executive with the Local Government Management Agency, MacNamee led major Government reform agenda involving 3,000 employees and was responsible for the delivery of a customer-focused industrial relations and specialist employment law advisory service to the local government sector employing 27,500 employees He previously spent a decade working with Teagasc as employee relations manager where he was responsible for the management and co-ordination of all employee related issues, at a strategic and individual level. He now manages Adare Human Resource Management’s employer relations function, where he oversees the provision of high-quality employee and industrial relations advice and service to Adare Human Resource Management clients and manages a portfolio of clients as well as representing organisations in third parties.

“Tommy Cummins, head of industrial relations with Adare Human Resource Management will act as union representative. He is vastly experienced in assisting unionised and non-unionised organisations in the design, development and delivery of organisational change through an employee relations framework, including redefinition of established IR processes and introduction of pay and reward structures. He is set to inject argument into this mock adjudication process,” added Ms Downes.
