Matching Talent With Industry In The Mid-West

-Over 20,000 Visitors Expected At The Inaugural Mid-West Regional Skills Expo-

3rd April 2017: It was with great excitement that the team at the Mid-West Region Skills Forum today announced the launch of their inaugural Mid-West Regional Skills Expo.  Taking place on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th April in the University of Limerick Sports Arena, the Mid-West Regional Skills seminar will bring together talented, highly skilled individuals with businesses in cutting edge sectors.

The Mid-West is one of the fasting growing regions in Ireland and is home to some of the world’s leading industry players in areas such as Manufacturing, Aviation, Life Sciences, ICT and Financial Services. The value proposition within the Mid-West is predominantly based upon symbiotic collaborations. It is with this premise in mind that this inaugural skills expo will be held in conjunction with the annual Barringtons Hospital Great Limerick Run event registration, which is expected to attract in excess of 20,000 visitors, 50% of which travel from outside the Mid-West region.

Mid-West Regional Skills Manager, Joe Leddin spoke at the launch in relation to the positive benefits of this expo, “Matching talent with industry needs is the platform that will deliver economic growth in this region. The expo allows industry to showcase the skills opportunities and careers now available to all those race and alumni visitors’.

Mid-West Business Development Manager IDA, Niall O’Callaghan commented that, “IDA Ireland has seen an unprecedented period of employment growth through our client companies over the past 18 months in the Mid-West Region. This expo will compliment this job creation while also allowing for a fantastic opportunity for companies to showcase the careers and roles currently available within the Mid-West, at the same time as encouraging prospective employees both from within the region, and those visiting Limerick for the weekend, to gain insights into how the Mid-West is now a destination of choice to live and work’.

In addition to the guaranteed existing footfall due to the Barringtons Hospital Great Limerick Run event registration, attendees to the Mid-West Regional Skills Expo will be invited from the extensive graduate alumni of both UL and LIT, which consist of 50,000 plus qualified individuals.

A growing economy together with technological and labour market advances present significant challenges for employers seeking to recruit a skilled work force. The Mid-West Skills Expo offers a unique proposition by partnering business with sport as the global competition for skilled workers gathers pace.

In support of the event Minister of State for Employment & Small Business, Mr Pat Breen T.D, commented, “It is wonderful to see such fantastic collaboration and innovation coming out of the Mid-West. An event such as this is a strong testament to the industry growth we have experienced in recent years. The Irish employment market is currently one of the strongest in Europe and it is collaborative events such as this help companies to network, learn, expand and create jobs. I would like to congratulate everyone involved in this inaugural event and wish you all every success in developing and building on its success in supporting enterprise in the Mid West Region.”
