Businesses that have remained open since lockdown was introduced due to their being considered essential services have been abiding by strict social distancing and hygiene measures in their premises to protect their workforces from COVID-19. Many, like Portdrine, Co Clare based Forcefield Active Technology, a subsidiary of Tekelek Shannon, found it difficult to source hand sanitiser in the quantities they required and at a reasonable cost.
A manufacturer of electric fencing for the Co-Op and agricultural sectors, hand sanitiser was not included in Forcefield’s normal product range. However, frustration in sourcing a timely supply of sanitiser at an affordable price prompted general manager Pat Freyne to search for an alternative source for this essential product, in a batch size and at a cost that that would be more reasonable for his own company’s and his customers’ use.
This search resulted in his sourcing a product, COVID-19 Anti Back 505, from a supplier in Scotland which he can now supply not only to his existing customer base but to an entirely new customer segment, manufacturing and services companies locally, regionally and nationally.
Delighted with this result, Pat Freyne stated: “This disinfectant spray can be used to clean surfaces or as a hand sanitiser. It comes in a 5-litre drum, which is more economical for factories and offices, who need to frequently re-fill dispensing equipment throughout their premises.”
Congratulating Forcefield Active Technology on this initiative, Shannon Chamber CEO Helen Downes said: “This is another positive outcome in this time of adversity. Forcefield set out to solve a problem for its own team and in doing so has found itself entering a new market segment. With Phase 1 of the economy’s reopening commencing on Monday, 18th May, I expect demand for this product will be brisk with companies keen to implement the measures required by Government.”
