The annual Shannon Chamber Golf Classic was, once again, a real hit with members with forty-four fourballs battling it out for glory on the fairways and greens of Shannon Golf Club last Thursday. Always a popular event, and while regarded as a social and networking opportunity, the battle for supremacy is never far from the golfers’ minds as they get into full flow on the day.
The team representing Career Decisions, comprising Paudie Fitzmaurice, Tim Crowe, Mike Casey and Jodi O’Connor emerged as overall winners with a score of 93 points, taking home 4 pairs of return flights from Shannon Airport. They were followed in second place by Atlantic Aviation Group team 2 (92 points), who claimed a 4-ball in Trump International Golf Links and Hotel, Doonbeg. M2 Office Supply were 3rd (87points), winning a 4-ball at Powerscourt Golf Club. The ladies’ longest drive was won by Elaine Kelly (Shannon Engine Support), winning jewellery from Keane’s Limerick and a Savoy Hotel dinner voucher; men’s longest drive winner of a Shannon Knights’ hamper was Tommy McGowan from Irish Health Insurance Group and the nearest the pin prize of a Gallagher’s Bunratty meal voucher was claimed by Jody McDonogh from Willis Towers Watson. The winners and runners-up also received a crystal golf ball compliments of Gift Innovations.
Shannon Chamber CEO Helen Downes was delighted with the turnout on the day: “We always look forward to this day as it is so well supported by our members as players and by our sponsors, some of whom are member companies and others who simply like to be associated with the day. It’s always a fun day but when the golfers reach the 12th and savour the refreshments offered by the Park Inn by Radisson Shannon Airport and recharge their energy levels the seriousness and concentration sets in.
“Members use this annual opportunity to entertain guests bringing golfers from all over Ireland to Shannon for the day. All were fulsome in their praise for the excellent condition of the course and, while not a golfer myself, I took it that the greens, described as the best in the region, were very testing. That’s praise indeed for Shannon. We have teams booking in already for 2020 to ensure their get a tee slot so that’s a great endorsement for the event.”
Niall Harris, regional manager, Morgan McKinley, anchor sponsors of the Shannon Chamber Golf Classic, commenting on the event said: “Morgan McKinley have successfully sponsored the Shannon Chamber Golf Classic for a number of years and do so because of the invaluable work they do in the region. Helen and the team are fantastic ambassadors because of the hard work they do in promoting the region, lobbying, training and organising business forums and briefings. Morgan McKinley also see these areas as key to our business and is the number one reason why we view the Chamber as perfect business partners.”
The Shannon Chamber Golf Classic 2019 were supported by Morgan McKinley as anchor sponsor and DB Schenker, Atlantic Aviation Group, Zagg International, Ei Electronics, Park Inn by Radisson Shannon Airport, Mentor Graphics, Shannon Commercial Properties, Idex Pumps Technology Ltd. and FroschCTM, as associated sponsors.
