With just over a week to go until Shannon Chamber’s annual golf classic tees off, the timesheet is fully booked and 172 ‘executive’ golfers are busily practicing their shots to ensure that they can bring home the spoils for their team in a day that has become synonymous for serving up business downtime on the lush fairways and rolling greens of Shannon Golf Club.

The 2017 Classic is sponsored by Eirtech Aviation Services & International Aerospace Coating (IAC) and co-sponsored by Atlantic Aviation Group, The Park Inn by Radisson, Ei Electronics, Idex Pump Technologies Ltd., Avara Pharmaceutical Services, Shannon Commercial Properties Ltd. and the Pepper Group with a large array of companies also supporting the Classic though tee sponsorship or adding to the amazing array of prizes awaiting the winners and many runners up.

Taking to the 18th fairway to launch the Classic, Shannon Chamber’s CEO Helen Downes was in esteemed company of Club president Bridget McCaul, Captain Pat Murphy and Lady Captain, Helen O’Donnell and, while not a golfer herself, always looks forward to this enjoyable day

“It’s always a sea of colour and a babble of excitement from 11am right through to late evening when the last four-ball comes in. We are so appreciative of the support we get from our members, both as players and supporters of the event each year. The timesheet filled out very fast this year; we even have a waiting list, which is a sign that the day is regarded as fun with business networking thrown in as an extra. All we need now is for the sunshine to return, which so far has not let us down.

“While we cannot accommodate any more players, companies can still sponsor a tee to give their company visibility and of course, attend the prize giving in the evening when our President Julie Dickerson and representatives from our main sponsors, Eirtech Aviation Services and International Aerospace Coatings (IAC), will be on hand to made the presentations.

“Our special thanks go to Shannon Golf Club for always having the course in excellent condition for our day. We would encourage any ladies who may be considering taking up golf to visit Shannon GC on Tuesday, 6 June from 4-6pm. The Club is one of 400 worldwide which is partaking in International Women’s Golf Day ‘Give Golf a Go’ initiative and club professional Arty Pyke will be on hand to give free tuition to ladies interested in taking up golf. It’s something I will be attending, “added Ms Downes.
