Shannon based aviation training school Atlantic Aviation Institute (AAI), which is a subsidiary of Atlantic Aviation Group, and the University of Limerick (UL) has this week announced a new partnership which will see the launch of a new EASA Part 21 Design Engineering postgraduate module (accredited at Level 9, 6 ECTS).

The partnership of UL and the AAI (an EASA Part 147 organisation) brings together academic and regulatory bodies in delivering this module. Director of the AAI, Caoimhe O’Donnell described the partnership as exciting saying, “Atlantic Aviation Group’s Design Engineering organisation identified a gap in the market for a dedicated programme that would provide for the skills and knowledge to perform the role of a design engineer in the industry. We are delighted and excited to partner with UL to deliver this specialised module for Aviation professionals and graduates.”

Commenting on the joint partnership, UL’s Programme Director of Aircraft Maintenance & Airworthiness Engineering, Dr Kyriakos Kourousis said, ”We are delighted to have partnered with the AAI in delivering this Level 9 postgraduate module. Shannon’s reputation as leading Aviation hub has long been established with some of the industry’s most influential aviation professionals having come from the region. UL is pleased to continue leading the way in educating the workforce in engineering design with our extensive range of aviation focused postgraduate and undergraduate programmes.”

The Atlantic Aviation Group Design Engineering department was established in the last year following strong demand from the company’s aircraft maintenance customers. Head of AAG’s Design Organisation Colm Carty said, “Since establishing AAG’s EASA Part 21 Design Organisation, we have noticed a large gap in the market for competent qualified professionals for this role. This postgrad module will provide structured training to bridge the gap between graduate engineers, experienced aviation professionals and Design Organisations. It also offers Leasing companies and Airlines an opportunity to upskill and understand the Design Engineering side of the business better.”

Enrolment for the module is now opened. Go to www.atlanticaviationinstitute.ie
