The fairways at Shannon Golf Club were packed to capacity last Thursday for Shannon Chamber’s annual golf classic.ThAlmost 160 corporate golfers took time away from the office to network in a casual setting and teed off to compete for a host of valuable prizes, including golf holidays for a Hole in One and nearest the pin

Thirty-nine teams competed for this year’s title. Last year’s winners, molly d marketing were unsuccessful in their attempt to retain the title and were beaten by a net score of 99 brought in by the Molex team of Padraig Cusack (Ennis GC), Martin Crotty (East Clare), Pat Madden and Denis Rochford, both members of Shannon GC.

Shannon Chamber’s chief executive Helen Downes paid tribute to the business community in Shannon and beyond for supporting the classic through sponsorship and entries.

20140619_Shannon_Chamber_Golf_0303“Sponsors make this event happen; we really appreciated the support we received from our main sponsors, Morgan McKinley and UCB and our associate sponsors IDEX Pump Technologies (Ireland) Ltd, Shannon Airport and Park Inn by Radisson Shannon Airportr.  The Park Inn by Radisson Shannon Airport provided ‘nourishment’ on the 12th and this was well received by all players, and much appreciated by Shannon Chamber.

“Golf Voyager added an interesting dimension to this year’s event by sponsoring golf holidays for a Hole in One and nearest the pin on the 12th. Unfortunately, no-one managed to get a hole in one but, having practised on the 12th GECAS’ Conor Kilroy of Limerick GC did manage to get a Hole in One on the 17th.

“Zagg International and Shannon Airport added some ‘techi’ goods to the goody bags which were very well received as well the food, water and extras supplied by Dunne Stores, Laya Healthcare and Mangans Cash & Carry Ennis. Thirty-five companies also sponsored tee which added a lot of colour at the tee boxes. We are so appreciative of the support we receive from companies; it’s really a day for our business members and their colleagues, supported by the entire business community.

“It’s so heartening to note that our annual golf classic has become a very popular business networking event, and that we have already teams registered for the 2015 classic, which is a great sign that it’s a very enjoyable day away from the desk,” added Ms Downes.
