SMEs Can Reduce Energy, Waste and Water Costs using €coMerit

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can look towards reducing their energy, waste and water costs by participating in a user-friendly environmental certification programme called €coMerit, which will be outlined at a seminar in Shannon this week.

Organised by Shannon Chamber in association with Southern Waste Region, this two-hour workshop will take place in Treacys Oakwood Hotel in Shannon this Thursday, 8 March, commencing at 8:30am.

Environmental consultant  Christian Kubernat, keynote speaker at the event, will outline how and where companies can seek to make savings while also improving their environmental performance. Mr Kubernat is an environmental consultant helping individuals, communities and businesses to become environmental resource efficient. He has worked with the Clean Technology Centre (CTC) on a number of different national programmess funded under the EPA’s National Waste Prevention Program including Green Hospitality, Green Healthcare and Green Festivals. He is currently providing environmental consultancy services for the Green Business programme and has recently joined the €coMerit environmental advice and certificate scheme.

Two companies , Stakelum Office Supplies and Coral Leisure will also demonstrate how they are already managing to save money and reduce their carbon footprint, particularly energy savings, using €coMerit.

Commenting on this event, Shannon Chamber CEO Helen Downes said: “As demonstrated through our Mid-West Lean Network, companies are striving harder to becoming lean and achieve cost savings. This is a consideration of equal importance to SMEs and that is why we are delighted to host this seminar.

“€coMerit is about empowering companies to become more sustainable. This seminar will show how this can be done.”

€coMerit is a user-friendly environmental certification programme for Small to Medium Enterprises. The focus is on providing practical assistance to a business through on-site guidance. The programme is now part funded by a number of organisations including Southern Region Waste Management Office. €coMerit member companies identify average annual savings of over €5,000.
