Shannon’s role in National Aviation Policy a Key Focus of Shannon Chamber Christmas Lunch with Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport

The recently published National Aviation Policy for Ireland and Shannon’s role in the delivery of the seventy-three action points emanating from it will the focus for discussion between the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohue T.D. and Shannon Chamber members when he visits Shannon next week.

Minister Donohue is keynote speaker at the Chamber’s Christmas lunch, which takes place at Dromoland Castle Hotel on Monday 23 November, commencing at 12.30pm. With a cluster of forty aviation companies in Shannon, the post-lunch discussion is set to be very interactive as it’s a sector with which Shannon has a long association, and an equally ambitious plan for strengthening sectoral activity.

GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS), the U.S. and Irish commercial aircraft financing and leasing business of GE, which has a fleet of 2,150 aircraft in operation or on order; loans collateralised on an additional 400 aircraft; and over 45 years of industry experience, is key sponsor of this event and will be involved in a pre-lunch meeting with Minister Donohue as part of Shannon Chamber’s CEO Forum.  Associate sponsors, Laya Healthcare and Eirtech Aviation, will also attend this meeting, which will give the Minster the opportunity to hear first-hand from key influencers and stakeholders in the aviation sector at Shannon as to how they can and will contribute to the delivery of the government’s plans for the development of the sector in Ireland.

Shannon Chamber chief executive Helen Downes is delighted that Minister Donohue accepted the Chamber’s invitation to address members.

“The aviation sector has always been a major contributor to the region’s economy. That’s why we, in association with and on behalf of our members, contributed to the issues paper which informed the compilation of the national aviation policy document and also submitted further comment for consideration in the final draft. We were pleased to note that many of the recommendations that we put forward have been incorporated into the final report and that Shannon has been earmarked as a key contributor to the future development of the sector in Ireland.

“We look forward to hearing the Minister elaborate on this contribution and to seeing how areas, such as the expansion of pre-clearance opening hours for business jets, Shannon’s positioning with the development of a hub as opposed to a niche airport, and also access issues, including access roads’ infrastructure can be further enhanced,” added Ms Downes.
