Shannon Free Zone’s Regeneration to be Outlined at Shannon Chamber luncheon

Following on the recent announcement that the Shannon Group, through Shannon Commercial Properties, is to invest €21 million in a first-phase major redevelopment programme at the Shannon Free Zone, with the first project – a €6 million, purpose-built facility for GE Measurement and Control – now, Shannon Chamber has invited Shannon Commercial Properties’ managing director, Ray O’Driscoll, to address its members at a luncheon in Dromoland Castle Hotel on Friday, 16 October 2015.

With a concerted effort now underway to reposition Shannon as an investment location of choice for mobile investment in a range of sectors, most notably aviation-related services, this chamber lunch is set to attract a lot of interest from the business community in Shannon and beyond.

The lunch, which commences at 12.30pm, is being sponsored by Ireland’s second largest mobile operator, Three. Speaking ahead of the lunch, Eoin MacManus, business director at Three said: “Three is committed to providing the best possible service for businesses in Shannon. Our €300m nationwide network upgrade has just launched and our first upgrades are in the Shannon area and throughout County Clare. Along with the 100 jobs Three has recently created in Limerick, these upgrades show our confidence in and dedication to business in the Mid-West. I’m looking forward to meeting Shannon Chamber members to discuss this and more.

Shannon Chamber’s chief executive Helen Downes added: “Since gaining its independence in 2013, deliverables by the Shannon Group would seem to have been centred on airport-related activities; however, a lot has been happening in other parts of the group, including Shannon Commercial Properties. Shannon Free Zone needs considerable investment to re-energise its attractiveness to global investors, and all of this takes time and money.  Recent announcements are a tangible indicator that the Group has a very robust plan in place for the Zone. We are delighted that the Group, through Mr O’Driscoll, has decided to detail the regeneration plans for the Zone at a Shannon Chamber lunch. I know it will be of immense interest to our members, many of whom have themselves invested heavily in their Shannon-based operations.”
