Shannon Chamber is actively encouraging companies in the greater Shannon area to give greater consideration to corporate social responsibility and to assist this process has organised a CSR workshop at which companies will hear the benefits and payback associated with CSR.

The workshop, which is sponsored by Shannon Heritage, will take place at the Corn Barn in Bunratty Folk Park on Tuesday, 17 February from 12.30pm to 2.30pm. Attendees will learn about CSR and how it can be beneficial for their businesses; they will get tips on how to go about starting a CSR programme; and hear from companies who have successfully implemented CSR programmes.

Shannon Chamber’s chief executive Helen Downes explains the need for a workshop of this nature: “Chambers Ireland has been at the forefront of promoting CSR for over 10 years and run the very successful annual CSR Awards.  While many Shannon companies are active in CSR, we’d love to encourage them to enter the awards and, we’d also like to see more SMEs become involved in this area too.

“While multinationals have reaped the benefits of having CSR strategies for years, many smaller businesses have yet to take the plunge. We hope this workshop will encourage them to do so. CSR doesn’t have to mean big money; this workshop will show SMEs that any business, no matter how small, can implement a CSR strategy.

“We will have three presenters on the day: Karina Howley, CSR manager with KPMG will give an overview of CSR while Neil Pakey, CEO, Shannon Group plc and Lorcan Hassett from GE Sensing. Shannon, will outline the types of CSR programmes their companies run and the work involved. It promises to be a very informative event.”
