There was great excitement on Sunday morning at the Doora-Barefield GAA Complex in Gurteen, Doora, Ennis, Co Clare, when Clare All Ireland winning hurlers Tony Kelly and David McInerney joined up with Munster and Irish Rugby legend Alan Quinlan to launch the Hurley Hoey 10km Charity Run/ Jog/ Walk that will start at 11am on Saturday March 7th.

It promises to be a fantastic day with Individual Prizes on offer for the top finishers.  The route has been carefully mapped with the start and finish taking place in Gurteen.  Speaking at the event, John Hoey, Chairperson of the organising committee commented; “We are delighted to be announcing details of this event today and we really want as many runners, joggers and walkers to take part from Clare and neighbouring counties. It’s our third year now and the event is just getting bigger and bigger but for us it’s just about getting friends, families and communities together.  It is deeply moving to see so many come out in memory of Ger, Eilish and indeed and their own loved ones.  We will again have entertainment and refreshments for all our participants and their families afterwards in the club-house.  We have had a fantastic response from the local business community also with Liddy’s Costcutter Roslevan and Shannonside Buildings Supplies Ennis as  our key  sponsors.”

Alan Quinlan added; “I’m delighted to be involved with the event again this year. Last year was a great day out for the club and more importantly the community – the event gets a phenomenal amount of support locally from volunteers marshalling the course/ car-parks to all the tea, coffee and sandwiches that looked after everyone in the club afterwards.  That’s what it’s all about and if weren’t for 6 Nations media commitments I’d be running it too…..maybe next year.

Registration for the event can be found on www.runireland.com with on-going event updates, news and information on Facebook – Hurley Hoey.  The entry fee is €20 for Adults, €10 for students with under eighteens free to enter.

All funds raised will go to TLC4CF (Tipperary, Limerick, Clare for Cystic Fibrosis) and the Rays of Hope Hospice Jinja, Uganda, East Africa.  Doora-Barefield resident, Dr. Frank Hassett of the Rays of Hope Hospice commented; “We are delighted to be involved with Hurley Hoey 2015 as we continue to build and deliver support services directly for patient care which are badly needed.”
