Latest Updates for Business on COVID-19

The impact of COVID-19 is now being felt in all sections of our community and by businesses and the flow of related information on how it will impact business in increasing.

In an effort to bring this information to members’ attention, Shannon Chamber has linked up with its HR advisory services partner, Adare Human Resource Management, to channel COVID-19 related information via the news section of our website

We advise members to check this page regularly.

Also, if your company is experiencing issues or needs some direction on any aspect of COVID-19 that is impacting your business, we would appreciate if you could channel your queries to and/or to let us know how your company is adapting to the current situation.

Our quest as a Chamber is to be an information portal to keep companies informed and to assist in whatever way we can to keep the wheels of members’ businesses moving.

Short-Time Work Support

The Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection has asked us to share information on new Short-Time Work Support which is available under Jobseeker’s Benefit.

This is an income support payment for employees who have been temporarily placed on a shorter working week, due to business challenges affecting their employment. The payment is made in respect of the employee’s regular salary for the days that they are no longer working.

For employers Short-time Work Support is intended to help employers during periods of temporary difficulty, without resorting to permanent layoffs. It helps employers retain skilled labour, in a reduced capacity, avoiding the need to re-employ or retrain employees once the business situation improves. In line with normal employment legislation, industrial relations protocol and collective agreements, where applicable, it is expected that employers would engage with employees and staff representatives as part of a change in working arrangements.
