Landmark Town Centre Site Acquired to Help Shape the Future of Shannon
Shannon Gateway Projects (SGP) has announced the acquisition of a significant 20-acre town centre site, representing a major investment in the long-term future of Shannon. SGP has been established by Michael Guinee, Chairman and Founder of Ei Electronics, one of Irelands most successful indigenous manufacturing companies, which is based in Shannon.
The acquisition has been made with a focus on public benefit and place-making. The site presents a rare opportunity to support the future growth and vitality of the town and to enhance its appeal as an attractive, vibrant and sustainable place to live, work and visit.
Recognising the importance of this once-in-a-generation opportunity, SGP has appointed Grafton Architects to lead the masterplanning process, building on and taking account of Clare County Council’s most recent town masterplan.
The internationally acclaimed Dublin-based practice, renowned for its thoughtful, context-driven approach to architecture and urban design, will work with SGP to develop a long-term vision for the site. Their appointment reflects the ambition for the project and a commitment to creating a masterplan of the highest quality—one that respects Shannon’s unique identity while helping to shape a vibrant, sustainable and enduring town centre for future generations.

While no specific development proposals have yet been confirmed, the organisation believes the site has the potential to be transformational for the town. Through a thoughtful and collaborative masterplanning process, the aim is to create a vision that unlocks new opportunities, supports economic and social development, and helps the town realise its full potential.
The masterplan will be informed by engagement with local stakeholders and other interested parties to ensure that future plans reflect local aspirations and priorities.
