Government Decision to Appeal Apple Ruling Welcome

Chambers Ireland has today (02 September 2016) welcomed confirmation by Government that they will appeal the European Commission’s state aid ruling on Apple.

Mark O’Mahoney, Director of Policy and Communications said, “Ireland must challenge the Commission’s decision on Apple. The Commission’s ruling that Ireland must collect additional taxes retrospectively from Apple constitutes direct interference in the tax affairs of a member state. Ireland has always maintained a principle of certainty on taxation as a key tenet of our inward investment strategy, and this cannot be compromised. We welcome today’s decision by cabinet to appeal the Commission ruling.”
