Ballygowan Natural Mineral Water is an iconic Irish brand exclusively bottled in a dedicated facility in Newcastlewest, Co Limerick.
Ballygowan is one of a proud Irish portfolio of beverages owned by Britvic Ireland, part of Carlsberg Group. With a brand portfolio dating back to the patenting of of soda water in the 1790s, Britvic Ireland is one of the oldest soft drinks companies in the world and remains the only large-scale soft drinks manufacturer in the Republic of Ireland employing over 400 people across the Island.
Britvic Ireland has been bottling Ballygowan at Newcastle West for 39 years. The site has a long history dating back to the discovery of St David’s Well by the Knights Templar in the middle ages. The modern Natural Mineral Water bottling plant has been in operation since 1986 and now employs 90 people across a site which has become a lighthouse for Sustainable manufacturing in the Britvic business.
The seminar, included in this site visit, will focus in on:
- Decarbonising the Newcastle West site
- Packaging, including:

- Legislation – Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR)
- Reducing the impact of packaging
- Nature/Biodiversity:
- What the Newcastle West site has to offer
- Bringing biodiversity to your site
This will be followed by a 30-minute external walk to explore the heritage and nature of the site.
