Description
While Budget 2024 contained a suite of new measures in the context of housing policy, the scarcity of housing is impacting the overall economic performance of Ireland, including here in the Mid-West region.
The lack of supply in the housing market and renting options are driving higher wage demands and making it difficult for companies to find accommodation for their employees which, in turn, is impacting their expansion opportunities and foreign direct investment potential.
Insufficient accommodation is adding a new layer to the challenges business face and could become a critical barrier to growth if not adequately addressed by Government.
A recent meeting with Chamber members focused on
- Obstacles to housing infrastructure
- Land availability for housing.
- Barriers to building:
- Serviced land
- Zoned land
- Affordability
- Call for flexible mechanisms to enable conversion of commercial buildings to residential
Companies need to see positive outcomes from Government plans to alleviate the housing crisis. otherwise decisions on corporate expansions or new investment could be adversely impacted.
This luncheon will enable members to continue this conversation with Minister O’Brien and seek answers to a critical burning platform for business.
