Description

The work of the Western Development Commission (WDC), a statutory body set up in 1997 to promote social and economic development in the Western Region (counties Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, Mayo, Roscommon, Galway and Clare), is all encompassing.

In its lifetime, through its Western Investment Fund (WIF), which provides equity finance and loans to business, communities, social enterprises , strategic initiatives and the creative industry bases in the Western Region, it has:

  • ā‚¬4.8 billion economy-wide impact.
  • invested ā‚¬92.3million in enterprises in the region
  • 280 companies supported through 345 projects
  • Companies financially supported by the WDC have generated over ā‚¬3.35 billion indirect revenues, including over ā‚¬2.4 billion in exports
  • supported 66,102 jobs

Thatā€™s in addition to the work it does in:

  • raising the profile of the region
  • building cohesion across the region
  • developing a global competitive advantage for the region

Shannon Chamber is keen for its members to understand the work of the Western Development Commission and to identify collaborative opportunities.
