Directors and Officers Insurance: Beyond the Policy – Understanding Your Protection as a Director

DATE: 24/03/2026

TIME: 8:30 am - 10:30 am

VENUE: Centre of Excellence, Ei Electronics, Shannon Industrial Estate, Shannon

If you are a company director or officer, or purchase insurance for business clients, you should understand why companies have Directors and Officers (D&O) insurance. But have you ever stopped to question what that policy covers and how it protects directors or officers as individuals?

In a climate of rising scrutiny and personal accountability, this Directors & Officers (D&O) workshop, delivered in collaboration with Aon, is designed to give you something every director, board member and D&O buyer needs – clarity and confidence about your own protection.

Delivered by Edwina Ryan, Managing Director,  and Kieran Dillon, Director, of Aon Ireland’s Professional Services team, this practical, interactive session  will help you understand not just what’s in your policy, but how it works when you need it most.

This session is ideal for executive and non‑executive directors, board and committee members, senior executives and professionals who purchase or manage D&O insurance and want to be sure that, when something goes wrong, they are genuinely protected.

Agenda

Your role and responsibilities as a director: What drives personal liability today, and how to avoid common governance pitfalls.

How your D&O policy should protect you : Features that make the difference when a claim lands on your desk.

Indemnification and legal framework: How company indemnities and insurance work together (and where the gaps can be).

Definitions, exclusions, and limitations: The “small print” that can have big consequences in a crisis.

Claims in practice: What happens when things go wrong – real‑world claim scenarios, when and how to notify, typical mistakes that jeopardise cover, and what support you should demand from insurers and advisers.

Areas of heightened exposure and recent developments: including the Individual Accountability Framework (IAF) and other regulatory trends increasing personal exposure.

You will leave this session with practical takeaways, questions to ask about your current cover, and a clearer view of your own risk as a director or as the person responsible for buying D&O insurance.

Registration and light refreshments from 8.30am.

Please book online to secure your place.
