Description
The Atlantic Economic Corridor (AEC): is an initiative of the Chambers of Commerce of Tralee, Shannon, Ennis, Galway, Roscommon, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim, and the American Chamber of Commerce. Collectively it represents 80,000 employees, in 2,725 Irish-owned and multinational firms in the mid-west, west and north-west.
Since the AEC published its strategy for economic development in the western regions in February 2016, the concept has been taken on board by the Government and a Task Force has been established to bring the project forward.
Shannon Chamber director Kevin Thompstone has been a key driver of this initiative. His presentation will focus on the objective of the AEC- to create a city of scale’ from Limerick though Galway to Sligo, to match Dublin and Cork in success in developing infrastructure, attracting Irish and multi-national investment, and growing jobs and wealth in vibrant communities – key achievements to date and, next steps.
Kevin Thompstone is also a key driver of ‘The Shannon Venue’ project, which aims to create a new Heart within Shannon Town Centre to facilitate retail and restaurants, encourage the use of the town centre and create a night-time economy through the development of civic, cultural and creative facilities for the community.
Kevin will outline progress to date from both a planning and funding perspective.
