Description

The All-Ireland Pollinator Plan (AIPP), considered an ‘entry-level’ to biodiversity on any site, is an evidence-based biodiversity initiative which allows companies to (i) take specific evidence-based action, (ii) map those evidence-based actions on a national GIS system ‘Actions for Pollinators and (iii) monitor those actions over time. We know that by taking actions for pollinators we automatically impact on wider biodiversity.

We have 102 bee species on the island of Ireland comprising 21 bumblebee species and 80 solitary bee species – our wild bees – and one honeybee species, a ‘managed pollinator’ which is not under threat.  One third of these wild bee species is threatened with extinction from this island because we have drastically reduced the amount of food (flowers) and safe nesting sites in our landscapes. The AIPP is about businesses, farmers, local authorities, schools, and gardeners joining together to create a landscape where pollinators can survive and thrive.
