Description

Description:

In this workshop, participants will delve into the intricacies of Natural Capital Reporting, a pivotal component under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). Natural capital, defined as the world’s stocks of natural resources, including geology, soils, air, water, and all living organisms, provides both direct and indirect contributions to our economy and well-being. Effective management and reporting of natural capital are crucial for organisations to ensure sustainable practices and long-term profitability.

The CSRD, expanding on non-financial reporting requirements, emphasises the transparency and accountability businesses must uphold regarding their environmental impact, including the sustainable use and conservation of natural capital. This directive recognises natural capital as integral to holistic environmental reporting, linking ecosystem health directly to corporate sustainability and risk management.

The workshop will include a case study presentation and time for questions and experience sharing.

Objectives:

  1. Understanding Natural Capital: Introduce the concept of natural capital and its economic and ecological importance.
  2. Linkages to CSRD: Explore how natural capital reporting fits within the broader scope of the CSRD, emphasizing compliance and strategic advantages.
  3. Practical Reporting Frameworks: Review frameworks and tools that facilitate effective natural capital accounting and reporting.
  4. Impact Assessment: Learn methods to assess and quantify the impacts of business operations on natural capital.
  5. Strategic Integration: Discuss strategies to integrate natural capital considerations into broader corporate decision-making processes.
  6. Case Studies: Review real-world examples of successful natural capital reporting and the resulting benefits to businesses and ecosystems.

The workshop will include a case study presentation by Trevor McHugh, MD at Veon Forestry & Ecology and time for questions and experience sharing.
