Chamber’s Lean initiatives shortlisted for top honours

Two Lean initiatives promoted by Shannon Chamber are in the running for top national accolades next week, having been shortlisted for Chambers Ireland Awards to be announced on April 10.

The Mid-West Lean Network, the first Lean network initiated and run by a Chamber in Ireland, is one of the Shannon Chamber entries to make the final cut. The second is the Mid-West Lean Network Conference 2018, which attracted a wide attendance from businesses from inside and outside the Region.

Established in 2016, the Lean Network brings over 100 companies employing 10,000 people from across all sectors and disciplines in the Mid-West Region and beyond together, as well as involving IDA Ireland and Enterprise Ireland. It will be vying for the ‘Most Innovative Project’ prize at the Chambers Ireland official awards ceremony to be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Santry on April 10.

Last year’s Lean Conference on the theme of ‘Creating a Mindset for Lean’ is shortlisted for the ‘Event of the Year’ Award. The keynote address was given by Adrian Furey, Vice President, Global Reconstruction Supply Chain, Zimmer Biomet.

Commenting on the shortlist nominations, Shannon Chamber CEO Helen Downes said that they represent a strong national endorsement of the Chamber’s innovative approach to serving the needs of its membership.

“Both the Lean Network and its flagship Annual Conference are the fruits of the Chamber initiating, and cooperating closely with, industry-led Steering Committees, resulting in significant benefits for regional firms.

“For example, over 500 people have participated in a series of workshops organised by the Network. A Continuous Improvement (CI) Award, aimed specifically at companies new to Lean, was another initiative introduced at last year’s Conference,” she added.

Chambers Ireland Awards recognise the outstanding work of Chambers around the country in five different categories and one Chamber will be nominated as the overall winner as ‘Chamber of the Year 2019’.
