Shannon Airport Scores Hat-Trick of National Award Nominations
Tuesday 6th October 2026: Shannon Airport has secured a hat-trick of national award nominations in recent weeks, having just been shortlisted in two categories at the 2026 Aviation Industry Awards, adding to its recent Digital Media Awards nomination.
The airport has been nominated in the Green Impact and Passenger Experience categories of the Aviation Industry Awards, recognising its focus on environmental responsibility and its commitment to delivering the high-quality, hassle-free passenger experience for which it is known.
The Green Impact nomination reflects a series of significant sustainability achievements at Shannon Airport, including the launch of Ireland’s first on-airfield solar PV farm, a 54% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions from a 2018 baseline, and the continued decarbonisation of airport operations, with half of the airport fleet now electrified.
The Passenger Experience nomination reflects Shannon Airport’s continued investment in the passenger journey. This includes enhancements to security screening processes that allow passengers to carry liquids, aerosols and gels in containers of up to two litres in their hand luggage, a €15 million terminal investment project, improved accessibility facilities and an expanded route network, with 40 services operating in 2026, the airport’s highest number in 17 years.
The nominations come following a strong start to the year with the Group winning both Public Sector Organisation of the Year and Large Organisation of the Year at the Green Awards.
The airport is also shortlisted at the Digital Media Awards for its recent marketing campaign, The Best Place To Fly From, with winners due to be announced later this week.

The Aviation Industry Awards are regarded as a benchmark for innovation and excellence across Ireland’s aviation sector. Shannon Airport has enjoyed previous success at the awards, winning the Operational Excellence Award last year, and the Customer Focus Achievement Award in 2024.
This year’s Aviation Industry Award winners will be announced at a ceremony in Dublin on Thursday 3rd December 2026.
