SUMMARY:Energy Management: The Past\, Present\, and Future
DESCRIPTION:This talk explores the evolution of energy management\, tracing
its origins from basic efficiency measures to its transformation into a c
ornerstone of industrial and organizational strategy. Liam will delve into
the key historical milestones that shaped energy management practices in
Ireland\, the current trends driving innovation and adoption\, and the rol
e of data\, technology\, and regulation in today's energy landscape. Barry
will present on looking forward\, he will discuss the future of energy ma
nagement\, highlighting emerging trends such as the use of AI\, IoT and ot
her areas\, the challenges\, and opportunities\, including decarbonization
\, digitalization\, and the integration of renewable energy. Attendees wil
l leave with a deeper understanding of how energy management has evolved\,
and the strategies needed to stay ahead in an increasingly dynamic and su
stainability-focused world.\n\nThis workshop will be an interactive worksh
op asking the participants to undertake a simple energy management maturit
y assessment digitally over a coffee break\, followed by break out groups
where the group discuss how best to collaborate on collectively improving
the level of energy management maturity of all organizations in the Shanno
n region in the months that follow.\n\nMeet the presenters\n\n\n\nLiam Mor
ris is an Energy Engineer with over 4 years’ experience and a deep commi
tment to sustainability and energy efficiency\, having previously worked o
n energy management for leading life sciences manufacturing facilities.\n\
nA graduate of University College Cork\, Liam completed a Master of Engine
ering Science in Energy Engineering\, with research focused on data-driven
modelling of energy consumption. This research was presented at several a
cademic conferences\, significantly enhancing his expertise in the field.\
n\nLiam held the role of Site Energy Lead at a global pharmaceutical manuf
acturing plant. In this capacity\, he focused on leading the site energy m
anagement system\, driving energy performance improvements and supporting
decarbonization projects. Drawing on the skills and knowledge gained durin
g his academic research\, Liam applied data-driven approaches to optimise
energy consumption\, reduce wasted time and implement sustainable practice
s.\n\nIn addition to his technical expertise\, Liam brings valuable manage
ment experience\, having led teams and collaborated with stakeholders to a
chieve shared goals. He is also passionate about promoting sustainability
within his professional community\, believing that fostering a culture of
sustainability is essential for creating a greener and more sustainable fu
ture.\n\nIn his current role as an Industrial Energy Consultant\, Liam wor
ks with clients and industrial partners to decarbonize operations and buil
d more sustainable businesses to develop emission reduction strategies\, c
reate and maintain robust energy management systems\, and implement cost-s
aving initiatives.\n\n\n\nBarry Bowen is an experienced Key Account and St
akeholder Manager working across Engineering\, Education and Recruitment s
ectors. Prior to joining Climeaction Barry worked with two leading Cork ba
sed\, international recruitment companies where he was responsible for Sen
ior Engineering appointments and permanent recruitment solutions to divers
e clients across the Engineering industry in Ireland including Sustainabil
ity\, Manufacturing and Life Sciences.\n\nTo support his professional back
ground\, Barry holds a Degree from the School of Biosystems Engineering in
UCD. Additionally\, he pursued a Master's in Renewable Energy to deepen h
is knowledge in this area.\n\nAfter completing his degree\, he had the pri
vilege of spending four years at Biosystems Engineering Ltd\, where he act
ively contributed to various sustainable energy projects across Ireland an
d Europe. Seeking additional growth and skills\, he also pursued a further
Master's in Education and spent 7 years working in secondary level educat
ion.\n\nBarry is actively involved in Engineers Ireland\, where he enjoys
being an engaged member. One aspect of his work that brings him great sati
sfaction is advising and connecting start-up Engineering Companies with in
dustry experts.\n\n\n\nFollowing the event\, the experts from Climeaction
will offer 30 minute free consultations with anyone who has a specific ene
rgy challenge they need help with. Times would need to be booked in advanc
e of the event. Please email admin@shannonchamber.ie to book your slot.&nb
